When it comes to children and suffering, compassion is everyone’s first outburst. Recently, former St. Thomas Aquinas High School hockey players rallied to keep childhood trials and tribulations in check by participating in the CHaD Battle of the Badges, an annual competitive game whereby firefighters and police officers meet on the ice in a contest of “Good vs. Good”. The game attracts more than 8,000 spectators and has raised nearly $2 million that funds critical programs of Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (CHaD).
CHaD provides outstanding compassionate care for children and their families who are undergoing through the difficulties of childhood illness or injury. Its mission is to offer the highest quality health care and comfort to the ill, to prevent illness and injury and to advance pediatric health care through education, research and improvement of clinical care and the provision of advocacy in the interest of children and their families.
Thank you, Alumni Saints, for supporting the Battle of the Badges and reminding all of us the importance of lacing up our shoes and skates for those we most champion: children.
