A Whale of a Good Time
STA's Honors and AP English classes had a whale of a good time this week as they traveled to Herman Melville's beloved New Bedford, MA. "The dearest place to live, in all New England," he said. Students visited the Seaman's Bethel, Mariner's Home, and toured the whaling museum.
This experience served as a wonderful way to connect their reading of "Moby Dick" with historical harpooning. Of course, no trip to New Bedford would be complete without Mrs. Collins leading the bus in sea shanties.
One of the clear advantages of STA's location on the Seacoast of New Hampshire is its proximity to so many rich resources. An STA education is easily enriched and enhanced by visits to nearby places that serve as ecological, historical, political addendums to their classroom lessons. For this, we are very grateful.
