A Season of New Hope

Alisa with husband Tim and Ghanaian partners

There are many changes happening at St. Thomas Aquinas these days for many reasons, one of which, however, is as full of hope and joy as it is bittersweet.

There are a lot of things about Mrs. Karwowski that make people see the “wow” in her name. She is caring, intelligent and intuitive. These qualities have made her a superb Guidance Counselor and Director St. Thomas Aquinas High School.  As an STA alumna herself, she knows the ins and outs of being a Saint like no one else and has sought to protect and guide generations of students through the halls of Dover Point Road.

For many years, Alisa has juggled her busy St. Thomas Aquinas schedule with her other passion- New Hope for Children, a Hague accredited non-profit adoption agency that facilitates both domestic and international adoptions. As Executive Director, Alisa has been at the forefront of New Hope’s growth and, over the past three years, it has expanded considerably. With a newly created partnership in Ghana, New Hope is developing an in-country office and team of professionals to maintain the highest level of standards for adoptions. This presents the Karwowski Family with new and unique opportunities.

Realizing this fact, Alisa has decided to reduce her responsibilities at STA. As of October 1, she will continue to work with the seniors with whom she has been working but veteran (and former STA) Guidance Counselor Mary Rice will step in to work with Alisa’s previous students. Alisa will work on Tuesdays and Thursdays; Mrs. Rice will work on Mondays and Wednesdays.

After 18 years of dedication to St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Alisa has served this community generously and loyally. We all know, however, that life is a series of seasons. As she enters into a new and exciting season with New Hope for Children, we support her with love. Similar to STA, New Hope’s mission is to provide hope to children. And there is no one better suited to do just that… than Mrs. Karwowski.
