On November 16 and 17, the St. Thomas Aquinas High School cast and crew of The Diary of Anne Frank will transport their audience to a space and time in history that most wish could be forgotten. Bringing a young Jewish girl’s memoirs to life, our STA thespians will recount one of the darkest persiods of our human history.
Wendy Kesselman’s adaptation of the original, Pulitzer Prize award-winning script by Goodrich and Hackett draws from unpublished parts of Anne Frank’s real-life diary. As such, the audience experiences Anne in a way that makes her more relatable to a modernly familiar teenager.
For nearly two years, Anne- along with her father, mother, and sister- joined the Van Daan family and hid in a secret annex space above her father’s former office in Amsterdam as Nazis deported Holland’s Jews to their deaths.
In her journey and in this well acted performance, audiences of all ages can witness the transcendence of the human spirit above the greatest evil: human apathy.
“Because in spite of everything, I still believe that people are truly good at heart.” – Anne Frank
