Losing a parent is a club to which no child should ever have to belong. The hurt can be carried in a variety of ways but, for Kieryn Hewitt ’21, she has turned her loss into motivation for making a difference.
Freshman Kieryn and some of her STA classmates will be participating in the annual Relay for Life at the University of New Hampshire on April 21. Kieryn’s father died of stomach cancer when she was very young. By participating in this fundraiser and publicly advocating for cancer research, Kieryn is doing exactly what makes us so proud at St. Thomas Aquinas High School- she is pursuing ways to make the world a better place.
Today is Kieryn’s birthday. Although her father is not physically present to applaud her efforts, we know he recognizes what we see in her on a daily basis- she is a light in darkness who is paving the way for a better world. And there is no doubt that he is celebrating her with balloons in heaven.
