STA Freshman (and Cadet) John Kodzis set sail on Saturday on the Gundalow “Piscataqua” with the local United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC). The nonprofit Gundalow Company celebrates the history of the use of these boats that are “crucial to the economy and everyday life” of the Piscataqua region and protects the region’s maritime heritage and environment through education and action.
In addition to the history lesson, John and his fellow USNSCC Cadets actively participated by swabbing the deck, manning the boat, and navigating through the water using basic landmark and historical techniques. The USNSCC provides a youth leadership development program that promotes interest and skill in naval disciplines while instilling strong moral character and life skills through leadership and technical programs modeled after the Navy’s professional development system. It is sponsored by the Navy League of the United States and supported by both the US Navy and Coast Guard.
Thank you, Gundalow Company, for providing John and all young men and women the opportunity to grow in knowledge, skill, discipline and teamwork. Well done, John!
