Lux in Tenebris: Faith and Service During Summer

July 31, 2008

During the summer months, St. Thomas students and staff have been fulfilling the call to be "lights in darkness" through participation in faith-building and service activities.

The Campus Ministry Leadership Retreat brought together students from next year's Campus Ministry core student leadership group. These twenty three students spent three days of team building, reflection, and planning at Camp Merrowvista in Tuftonboro, NH. The team adopted a mission of fostering "the development of the St. Thomas community through offering opportunities to grow in faith, service, and leadership."

A number of STA students and recent graduates participated in the Young Neighbors in Action mission trip, offered through St. Mary's Parish. The students traveled to Worcester, MA, where they cleaned, painted, sorted clothes for a clothing pantry, performed yard work, and served food at a shelter.

Numerous students have participated in Habitat for Humanity, both individually, and through a school-organized trip to Portland during July.

Many students have individually performed service as part of the St. Thomas Community Service Requirement.
